Diesel Generator - Models

!: Diesel Generator - Models

Nowadays the companies are producing diesel generators that do not create loud sounds at all. Moreover they are very light devices. These brilliant improvisations of sound level and decreased weight have caught the eye of people. That is the reason why people tend to purchase these generators because they have more features as compared to other devices. They are available in the market in different models. Given below I have provided some information on the Onan Pro Series model and the Red Hawk model.

The specialty of Onan generator is that their wattage level is ranging from 3000 to 6000 watts. These amazing devices run for hours and hours. Moreover their performance is brilliant whenever the power is required. The Onan generator is not at all heavy weight and they are simple to utilize in conditions where you have to use them in remote areas. They have a big diesel container that is why they run for a long time. When the fuel level is down, these devices stop working automatically.

Red Hawk generators are available in diverse types that offer different energy levels. You can utilize these generators for your house or if you are planning to go for camping then these devices are useful for you because of their portability factor. These devices have got a system that has 12 horse power. Moreover, the Red Hawk diesel generator is also a very quiet generator.

Both of these models offer dependable diesel power. After the introduction of low level sound diesel generators which are light weight, consumers really want to utilize these devices. Moreover the durability of these devices has also been enhanced. Electric generators are the main competitors of the diesel generators as both of them provide many benefits for the customers. The new innovations in the diesel generators are really making them prominent.

Marine Diesel Engines

!: Marine Diesel Engines

There isn't much an amateur mechanic with a limited tool kit can (or should) do to the major components inside marine diesels apart from making sure that it has a good supply of fuel and air and clean lubricating oil.

You can, however, check and adjust the gap between the rocker and the valve. There has to be a gap - usually about the thickness of a fingernail - to allow for the different rates at which the various components expand and contract as they warm up. Without it, there's a very real risk that the valves won't shut completely: they may even come into catastrophic contact with the pistons. If the gap is too large, the valves may not open as far as they should, and the engine will certainly be noisier than it should be.

1 Read the engine manual to find out what the valve/rocker clearances should be, and whether they should be adjusted with the engine cold or at normal running temperature. Note that the clearances for inlet valves may be different for those for exhaust valves, because exhaust valves get hotter.

2 Remove the rocker cover - a relatively thin metal box on top of the engine, usually with the oil filler cap in the middle. Some engines have a separate rocker cover for each cylinder, or for each of two or three groups of cylinders.

3 Check the gap on each valve in turn, when the valve is completely closed and the gap is

its widest. There are two ways of finding out when this happens. On a multi-cylinder engine, the best way is to find the 'magic number' for your engine by adding one to the number of cylinders. For a four-cylinder engine, for instance, the magic number is five.

4 Turn the engine slowly by hand , if necessary using a spanner on the crankshaft (big nut on the lowest of the pulleys at the front of the engine). Watch the rockers moving as you do so, until the two rockers for one cylinder are 'on the rock' - that is, when one is rising and the other falling - signifying that this particular cylinder is at the end of its exhaust stroke and just beginning its induction stroke. Subtract the number of this cylinder from the 'magic number' to find the number of the cylinder that is ready to have its valve clearances checked. If, for instance, you have a four-cylinder engine and number 2 cylinder's valves are on the rock, number 3 cylinder is ready, because 5 - 2 = 3.

5 On a single-cylinder engine, the clearance for one valve should be checked when the other valve is fully depressed. You can use this approach for a multi-cylinder engine, but it will take longer!

6 Slacken the lock-nut on the rocker whose clearance you are about to adjust, and then unscrew the threaded adjuster about one or two turns.

7 Set a feeler gauge to the clearance specified in the engine manual, and slip it between the valve stem and the rocker. Gently wiggle the feeler gauge whilst tightening the adjusting screw, until you can feel the feeler gauge being nipped between the valve stem and the rocker.

8 Leave the feeler gauge in place, and hold the adjusting screw with a screwdriver while you tighten the lock-nut. When it's tight, wiggle the feeler gauge again to check that you haven't upset the adjustment: you should feel a slight resistance, but it shouldn't be jammed tight.

9 Repeat the process for each valve in turn, then replace the rocker cover, making sure that the cork or rubber sealing gasket is smooth, undamaged and properly seated.

!: Private Solar Powered Generator - Off-The-Grid Emergency Backup Power!

Sooner or later most of us will face a natural disaster and or extended loss of electrical power. Recent Head Line news featuring Earthquakes and Snow and Ice storms highlight the devastating effect extended power outages inflict on human populations.

Having an emergency backup system is becoming a necessity. A newly arrived departure from conventional gas or diesel generators is a simple no fuss Easy to Use Solar Powered Generator. A reliable backup power source would alleviate much needless suffering by guaranteeing use of Essential Appliances during Emergency Situations.

A few hours without power is manageable, however days or weeks without power can have serious consequences! Think about this - the sun is FREE. The sun can produce an endless supply of electricity providing "On Demand" power prior to, during and after emergency situations.

Having a private Solar Powered Generator can provide up to twelve hours of uninterrupted backup power. Until now backup power products on the market have only been able to provide limited backup power for electrical outages. Extended run times are now available!

New Generation Privately Owned Solar Powered Generators are able to perform the following benefits:

Maximum power in minimum time: The ease of setting up a New Generation Solar backup system has been reduced to MINUTES. Plug in appliances and you are good to go! Run AC and DC appliances anywhere and anytime you need power.

EPA Issues New Rules Under the Clean Air Act on Emissions

!: EPA Issues New Rules Under the Clean Air Act on Emissions

Earlier this year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued new rules under the Clean Air Act on toxic emissions and in particular, the emission of pollutants by diesel-powered, internal combustion engines. Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE) are also known as "compression engines", are the target of this legislation and they are used very widely across the country to generate electricity, for use in power generation plants, industrial facilities, chemical plants and refineries as well as many manufacturing installations. RICE installations are also used to provide emergency back-up power for use by emergency services and for flood prevention and management.

The new rules mean that practically, all engine and associated pump and compressor equipment will require the installation of pollution control measures, and be subjected to additional checks and monitoring procedures. In some instances, engines will be required to burn ultra-low sulfur fuels.

The pollutants which the EPA rules are targeting include carbon monoxide (the primary pollutant which the EPA is seeking to reduce and control). Carbon monoxide has been found by the EPA to be associated closely with pollution by a wide variety of toxic emissions, including but not limited to benzene, formaldehyde, toluene, styrene, naphthalene and many others (primarily organic compounds in nature).

Other toxic pollutants not directly covered by the new rules are also expected to be reduced by the measures being introduced, including the emission of nickel, mercury, selenium, chromium, cadmium, manganese and in particular the emission of sulfur oxides.

The new EPA rules deals with only existing static installations and sub-divides RICE engines into "major" and "area" sources. A major source is any static pollutant source with actual or potential emissions in the range of 10 tons per year or of a single regulated pollutant, or; has the potential or is actually emitting 25 tons or more of any combination of regulated pollutants.

If a static ICE installation does not qualify as a major source it is designated as an area source.

There are several sub-classifications of based on emission limits of both major and area sources and which is based upon engine horsepower.

Engine start-up s may involve the emission of pollutants in excess of the mandated EPA limits, and to accommodate the new limits, the EPA rules only allow for engine start-ups to exceed more than 30 minutes. There are exceptions to this rule.

The new EPA rules also require changes to maintenance schedules, in particular the changes of lubricants and filters as well as certifying inspection of air hoses, belts and cleaners all within specified time periods. A key pillar of the new rules is the need for operators to demonstrate compliance with the new rules.

In summary, the new rules impact all existing, static RICE installations. Ancillary equipment such as pumping equipment will also be affected. Operators using RICE facilities to generate electricity are most affected. There is a comprehensive need to comply with the new rules in fact but also to demonstrate compliance which means improving or establishing documentation procedures as well as establishing appropriate maintenance and inspection scheduling.
